Virgo

by Cindy McKean

The Sun entered the sign of Virgo on August 23. But typical fastidious Virgos would already know this. This is being sent a day early just for you!

Virgos typically like to be precise. That means leaving early to arrive on time (ok, even arriving early), just in case of delays. They really hate to be late and people being late for them - but they quickly forgive it.

People born under this sign sometimes get a bad rap as being sticks in the mud and perfectionists. Though mutable, (i.e. meaning one of the giving/flexible signs), they are creatures of habit. Virgos simply believe that excellence is a requirement for a worthwhile, virtuous, and fulfilling existence.

In the Ancient Egyptian zodiac, the new year began in the constellation of Virgo, unlike modern astrology where it begins in Aries. This is because Virgo is the sign of the harvest when provisions are reaped. She's the maiden holding a shaft of wheat. It's the hard work put in during the spring & summer of planting the seeds & minding the crops that arises. It's also the hard work now that will pay off in the winter. The harvesting, the inventorying, the fastidious packing of foods is what gets everyone though fall and winter perfectly timed and inventoried to the spring (in Aries - coincidence or conspiracy?)

The visual that comes with Virgo is the sign of the virgin. It is not literal, but it really reflects modesty and discretion. So when everything's lined up (right time, right place), Virgos are generous and nurturing.

Virgos are compelled to be of service to others. For Virgos, caring for others is delivered in the form of finding workable solutions to everyday problems. They are practical and efficient in their approach whilst being able to focus on the mundane details that other signs might overlook.

Virgos are rather discriminating with who they associate with, so if you have one that counts you as a friend, you are special.

What does Sun in Virgo mean to YOU?

This is a time for shifting your focus onto details. "Spring" clean now so that you can make room for the bulky winter necessities that would keep you warm and cozy. It's an ideal time to get organized, communicate, facilitate, and help others.

This is also a great time to create new routines. Virgo is ruled by Mercury so this is a time to stretch and become more nimble. The Virgoan energy under Mercury would make it a great time review your nutrition and get a check up.

Happy Birthday, Cancer!

by Cindy McKean

The Cancer Sun (June 21 - July 22), ruled by the Moon, starts with the Summer Solstice (Winter Solstice in the southern hemisphere).

It is the birth sign of the United States of America. Cancer is the first water sign of the Zodiac.

Cancers form their identity around home, family, food, plants, and personal experiences.

They are very empathetic and enjoy nurturing others - and being cardinal, they have no problem taking the initiative to do so even though they are generally shy. Being ruled by the Moon, they can feel and reflect every fluctuation of mood, whether the source is internal or external. Cancer's empathy and nurturing character is a gateway for lunar intuitiveness and a Moon-struck merriment.

What does Sun in Cancer mean for the rest of us?

Regardless of your sign, all of us are likely to move into a period where our emotional life takes center stage - just think of all the summer romances you hear of or experienced.

When the Sun is in Cancer, tend to your gardens to find serenity, and make good memories during the hottest month of the year. Take plenty of photos so you could continue to reminisce. Cancer is one of 4 signs that love photography. Oh yes, don't forget to be near the water - the ultimate source of serenity for Cancerians, Cancer Rising Signs, and those with Cancer Moons.

Enjoy the summer sun in Cancer!

How to Meet Your Spirit Guides

by Dennis "Doc" Cromwell

Everyone wants to know how to get in touch with her or his spirit guides. So just how does one go about meeting them? The first step involves clearly stating a desire and an intention to open up communication with them. Spirit guides, as well as spirit in general, are constantly sending us messages we often interpret as hunches or gut feelings so the next step is learning to listen to these messages.

Meditation is the most well known way to listen as the meditative state is a "receptive" state, one that removes the normal filters that prevent one from hearing and perceiving guides.

The next step involves setting aside any preconceived ideas of how spirit guides should look and how they should communicate with us. Spirit guides can reveal themselves in a variety of ways. Most often they take the shape and form of human beings but might also be seen as spheres of light or merely as brilliant colors. They might also be experienced in a sensory way such as a feeling or a smell or possibly take on a physical form such as a symbol which has significance to you. So it is important to be open to the myriad forms your guides might take and it is equally important to realize that these teachers always reveal themselves in a manner and form that is both non-threatening and most readily recognizable.

So the trick is to be open and aware of any thought, feeling, shape and symbol as well as anything that stimulates one of our five senses. By meditating on a regular basis and repeating the intention to meet your guides, you will within a very short period of time meet your spirit guides.

Grounding

by Dennis "Doc" Cromwell

A concept frequently heard in the metaphysical world is that of grounding. Why ground yourself? Grounding helps us to stay rooted in the here and now. It helps us maintain a steady, alert state of mind by keeping focused and attentive in the present moment. Grounding also assists in cleaning the body and aura of any and all negative and unhealthy energies which one may have encountered and absorbed throughout the day and enables us to root ourselves into the earth creating a conduit, so to speak, which channels negative energies directly into the earth.

Why the earth? Our planet is an incredibly efficient recycler of energy. The earth readily and unconditionally accepts all energy we wish to have removed from our beings, including our auras. Whether the energy is positive or negative is unimportant to the earth. Negative energy is absorbed, transmuted to neutral and, through the cyclic movement of both the sun and the moon, is converted into positive, or, if you will, an energy that promotes life once again.

Because of its iron core the earth is also a magnificent energy generator, so when we ground ourselves we are drawing energy up from the earth while at the same time pulling it down from the Universe. This effectively serves to revitalize us and protect us from any wayward negative energy we might encounter throughout our day.
